Socio-Political Positions of the Umbrella Organization

In addition to an umbrella organization's regular responsibilities, dabei-austria is also committed to the active participation in shaping the general framework for professional integration.

The following excerpts from the umbrella organization's socio-political position paper present a summary of the social, socio-political and labour market related issues and challenges dabei-austria considers central.

1. Civil lieberties and human rights form the basis for integrative achievements

Pfeil.JPG Integration is more than a social service; integration is a societal responsibility and opportunity.

Pfeil.JPG Pople with disabilities or illnesses have a right to an integrative education beyond Grade 9.

Pfeil.JPG People with disabilities or illnesses have a right to an integrative professional training.

Pfeil.JPG Successful professional integration is inextricably linked with modern housing in close vicinity to work and social life.

2. Work should be rewarding

Pfeil.JPG People with disabilities or illnesses have a right to be gainfully employed and to receive support  in the process of professional integration.

Pfeil.JPG The criteria for occupational therapy should allow for greater access and provide more flexible variants. Participating in this form of therapy should not preclude gainful employment. Mixed schedules should be made available to minimize financial penalties.

Pfeil.JPG Recognition of partial qualifications as part of the collective agreement.

Pfeil.JPG Individual achievement potential and the special needs of disabled or handicapped persons should be taken into consideration.

Pfeil.JPG The status "gainfully employed" should include facilities for the disabled.

Pfeil.JPG Basic income and financial security are also a very important topic for people with disabilities or illnesses.

Pfeil.JPG Employment is an important prerequisite for a self-determined lifestyle.

3. Accessibility

Pfeil.JPG Availability of and access to the public transportation network is a particularly important                  requirement for professional integration. Improvements will need to be undertaken especially in rural areas.
